Malatang is a popular Chinese street food that originated in Sichuan province. It’s a type of spicy hot pot that’s perfect for cold weather. This recipe is a quick and easy version of malatang that can be made at home with minimal ingredients.
Chinese Malatang Recipe
Ingredients:
1 pack of instant noodles (remove the seasoning pack)
4 cloves of garlic (minced)
4 thai chilis (chopped)
1 stalk of green onion (chopped and separated of white and green)
1 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp of oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp vinegar
2 tbsp prawn broth
Assortment of foods you would like to add into your malatang! (In this video: Corn, fish balls and okra)
Instructions:
In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, chopped thai chilis, chili flakes, green onion whites and sesame seeds.
In a saucepan, heat up the oil and then pour it over the mixture.
Add in all the sauces into the mixture(soy sauce, fish sauce, vinegar, prawn broth) and mix everything together.
In a pot, boil the ingredients you have chosen to add in your malatang until it’s cooked, then take it out and drain the water thoroughly.
Pour the sauce mixture on top of your ingredients, then top it off with green onion and mix everything till combined.
